Don't Fret

"Pick the day. Enjoy it - to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come... The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present - and I don't want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future."
 ~Audrey Hepburn

May you always be willing to enjoy the life you are living.

Dream Big

Most people underestimate their own personal power. They give up even before they begin, thus missing out on valuable opportunities. Time and time again we see that the people who are most successful are not afraid to fail. In fact, when failure comes in the form of obstacles or setbacks, they learn and grow from the experience and begin again with a new knowledge and purpose.

For many of us, taking risks is difficult and the first step is always the hardest. The best way to reduce fear and gain confidence is to take action. Start with small steps and build upon them, you will be headed in the right direction and the fear will become more manageable. As your confidence grows, so will your successes.

Removing fear of failure and believing in yourself opens the doors to accomplishing your wildest dreams. Believe in yourself, for what you believe is what you will become.

May you always believe that your possibilities are limitless.

For You

Peter Bradley Adams

Music in the soul can be heard by the universe" ~ Lao Tzu

Music has the ability to transport me anywhere in time. It can move me emotionally to a place of joy or sorrow. I love music and I would consider myself someone who has a somewhat eclectic taste.  I enjoy classical, country, oldies, rock and roll etc... As a Mom I have shared my love for music with my children. I remember Emily singing Blackbird, by the Beatles, in the styling of Bob Dylan at the age of five. And Hannah belting out Tomorrow, from the musical Annie, at the age of three.  But as I've gotten older I seem to listen to the same music over and over. So I'm always excited to find a new artist that moves me.  This summer it was Adele and tonight Hannah introduced me to Peter Bradley Adams. From the moment she turned it on, his beautiful melodies took me in. Check out his song titled "For You" on youtube or itunes, he is definitely an artist worth exploring further. Thank you Hannah for the wonder-full inspiration!

May the universe always hear the music in your soul.

Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes

"It's kind of fun to do the impossible"   ~Walt Disney

Yarn Bombing. Taking a "grandma inspired" hobby to the next level!

Don't worry when people say it can't be done.
The secret is to continue dreaming,
for life will only take us as far as we allow ourselves to go.
There really is no telling what we can accomplish when passion,
love and determination are the main ingredients to attaining our goals.

May you always be willing to dream the impossible dream.

Secret for a Happy Life

"Do what makes you happiest.
Look upon what gives you joy.
Speak to those who warm your heart.
Listen to that which lifts your spirit.
Surround yourself with sights and sounds and people that give you pleasure.
For all the happiness you give to others all year long, give yourself a perfect day."
~Author Unknown

And then tomorrow, repeat steps 1-6.

May you always be willing to lead a happy life.

Your Greatest Power

"Nothing external to you has any power over you."
                                     ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Becoming aware of my character defects leads me naturally to the next step of blaming my parents," one woman quips.

Benjamin Franklin didn't feel that way. Becoming aware of his character defects led him to something quite remarkable. He exercised what author J. Martin Kohe calls YOUR GREATEST POWER (1955 &  2005) --
your power to choose.

Franklin noticed that he had difficulty getting along with people. He tended to argue too much. He had trouble making and keeping friends. So he made a choice. He chose to examine his own personality and make a list of what he considered undesirable personality traits. (It's not known if other people helped him make this list.)

It was New Year's Day. Franklin finished his list of personality traits he wanted to change. He identified 13 character flaws and determined to work on each one for a week. He did this for an entire year and finally checked each trait off his list.

Benjamin Franklin developed one of the finest personalities in America. People looked up to him and admired him. When the colonies needed help from France, they sent Franklin. The French liked him and gave him what he wanted.

Suppose Franklin had chosen to go through life without using his greatest power -- his power to choose. Suppose he reasoned that there was really nothing he could do about himself. Would France have supported he colonies? The history of the world may have been significantly different.

One good wish changes nothing. But one good decision changes everything. Your power to choose, to make a good decision, spells the difference between wishing and making those wishes come true.

Do you need to exercise your greatest power? Your power to choose can never be taken from you. It can be neglected. It can be ignored. But if used, it can make all the difference
Use your greatest power and, whether or not you change history, you will certainly change your future.

Take a moment

I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.

~ E.E. Cummings

I say YES to love today.
Help me to open my heart to give and receive love
I say YES to peace today.
Help me to find balance and harmony
I say YES to happiness today.
Help me to relax and smile
I say YES to the beauty that surrounds me today.
Help me to be present in this moment.

May you find the power of "yes" in your day today and everyday.

The Big Cheese

“Dining with one’s friends and beloved family is certainly one of life’s primal and most innocent delights, one that is both soul-satisfying and eternal,” ~Julia Child

Last week I went to book club at my friend Michelle's house. Michelle is a very accomplished cook and most gracious hostess. She is forever trying new recipes and expanding her culinary horizons. For lunch we had these AMAZINGLY YUMMY sandwiches! I'm not kidding. I saw these as they were being prepared and I thought to myself..."butternut squash sandwiches...I don't know about this" but I kept my thoughts to myself and waited for lunch to be served. Well let me tell you, these sandwiches were out of this world! The butternut squash paired with the manchego cheese and caramelized onions, was an explosion of sweet and savory goodness in my mouth!

This lunch made me remember what I love about dining with friends and the experience of trying new things. In my house we can easily become creatures of habit. Often eating the same six items over and over again, not really stepping out of our comfort zone. I would have passed right over this recipe if I would have been thumbing through the magazine, because the combination of ingredients didn't appeal to me at all. But thanks to Michelle, and a delightful afternoon shared with friends, I will be looking at recipes with a new appreciation.

May you always be open to try new things.

Maybe I'm Amazed

Kennedy Center Honors Sir Paul McCartney as David Grohl and Nora Jones sing Maybe I'm Amazed.

I could listen to this all day! This is one of my favorite songs and it just happens to be the ring-tone for my husbands calls. I LOVE their rendition...every time I watch this it makes me smile.

Painting a Masterpiece

If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.

~Vincent Van Gogh
All too often we listen to that voice within, whispering, sometimes shouting that we are less than. Insisting that love, happiness or success is just short of our grasp. It is so important to pay attention to the messages we send ourselves, for those thoughts that are repeated today will become the belief's of tomorrow. Silence the voice of can't and embrace the voice of can. The only way you will ever discover the talented and amazing individual that you are is to believe that he/she already exists.

May you always be willing to see the masterpiece within.

"Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish"

A truly inspirational message.

"There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle."
~Albert Einstein

Challenging circumstances occur in our lives each day. Imagine how differently life would be if we approached these challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow,  instead of a barrier keeping us from finding happiness. So often those experiences we determine to be most difficult, in time, become the catalyst for growth and assist us in becoming the people we want to be.

When we insist on finding the miracle in our day instead of the challenge, a shift takes place. The challenge is diminished and the miracle is revealed.

May your heart be open to live your life as though each moment is a miracle.

The Amazing Staircase

I love this!!!!

For my birthday two years ago I received a Kindle. I was a little apprehensive at first, wondering if I would miss the weight of a book in my hands, bookshelves lined with the Classics nestled between Everything I Need to Know I learned in Kindergarten and The Kite Runner? Would I miss a library filled with all the books that I have read and loved, or the ability to loan my favorite books to friends and family? (Except for Dawny, whom I don't loan to anymore...book-napper!)   Would I miss the piles of books around the house that somehow made me feel well rounded, well read and maybe a little more enlightened?

Now that I have used the Kindle for two years, it is one of my favorite things. When we go on vacation I can bring as many books as I desire. I have no worries about how many books to pack or weight restrictions. No concerns about bringing a book that I don't like or getting caught reading the summer smut that I've convinced my sister-in-law I am above reading. No matter what the circumstance, a best-seller, self-help book or Scrabble is right at my fingertips! With the Kindle, I don't have to dust any novels or look at a rapidly growing mountain of books next to my bed that didn't make it to the library of book shelves. I just turn on my kindle, mac, or phone and my library appears.

When I first saw pictures of this book lined staircase from an apartment in London, I immediately felt inspired. I was unexpectedly excited for those dusty books next to my bed. Wouldn't they look perfect tucked neatly away under my stairs!? I knew the only thing standing in the way of my own Amazing staircase was a crowbar, some burled walnut and the dewey decimal system. Then again......my bookshelves at home have never looked like this and my kindle keeps all of my new books nice and tidy! Maybe the more realistic motivation is to clean out my own book shelves and someday build my own Amazing staircase.

Until then Dawny, I think there are some books coming your way!
